OUR NEW LOCATION

The Historic View Point Inn — Columbia Gorge

We have broken ground at our new location, the historic View Point Inn in Corbett, Oregon. With outstanding recreational opportunities nearby, it is uniquely poised to provide opportunities for restoring the mind, body, and spirit. With sweeping views of the Columbia Gorge, we hope to make this spectacular place a meaningful confluence where health, nature, and holistic practices converge.

A HISTORIC LOCATION

The View Point Inn was built in the Arts and Crafts style in 1924. Designed by Carl L. Linde, one of Oregon’s foremost architects, for a site with dramatic views overlooking the Columbia Gorge, it is the only remaining example of the kind of resorts built to welcome the “automobile tourism” that was growing alongside new scenic highway projects. First known as Palmer Place, it operated as a teahouse that also served chicken dinners to those exploring the dazzling countryside.

The resort passed to William Moessner in 1927. An experienced restaurateur, he renamed the place the View Point Inn. During the prosperous twenties and the depressed thirties, the Inn drew many guests, including Prince Friedrich of Potsdam, presidential candidate Thomas Dewey, and soprano Lily Pons, but the Second World War’s shortages closed the Inn until the 1950s, when it had a short but ultimately unsuccessful revival, serving its last meal in 1962. Times had changed.

The Inn fell into disrepair, with a few fits and spurts of infamy, most recently as the setting for the prom in the Twilight vampire epic, after which a mysterious fire gutted much of the second story. In 2019 Heiner and Sheron Fruehauf began to work with the town of Corbett to bring their new vision for the Inn to life.

This stunning location provides fresh air, pure water, and tranquility, making it the ideal location for a wellness retreat. The structure will be fully restored and upgraded to meet functional and aesthetic requirements. It will retain its status on the National Register of Historic Places.
