PROGRAM DESIGN

This series is designed to further the lifelong learner’s journey as they deepen their mastery of acupuncture point selections based on the profound information embedded in their classical names. It accommodates the needs and interest of all levels, from students of Chinese medicine and newer practitioners to seasoned practitioners who are ever-refining their capacity to successfully treat any condition presented in the clinic.

For each of the twelve primary channel systems, Heiner will analyze the original meaning of each point name in its multilayered complexity. The ancient acupuncture point names not only serve as mnemonic reminders about the location of each point, but also contain significant information revealing the unique energetic qualities and highly specific physiology and pathology of each point.

Heiner will take you on a tour-de-force teasing out each layer of meaning through multiple translations—a feat that has never been done before in any published work on acupuncture in China or the West. In each instance, clinical context will be provided by the presentation of case examples or experience based comments by senior acupuncturists Bob Quinn and Michael Berletich.

With this base of knowledge, practitioners can stand on firm ground while being flexible in their ability to select acupuncture points that can effectively treat the complex physical, mental/emotional and spiritual issues we encounter in our out-of-balance world.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Heiner will share decades of research into the nuanced qualities of the acupuncture points, and instill in participants with a tangible feel for the unique nature and energetic qualities of each point in the 12 channel networks of Chinese medicine.

He will offer a working knowledge of the following:

• Different translation possibilities for each point name, with a particular focus on location, physiology, and pathology. 

• A thorough understanding of how the art and science of Chinese medicine–especially the modality of acupuncture–is deeply embedded in the culture, cosmology, astrology, mythology, geography, and history of ancient China. 

• The physical indications for each acupuncture point as provided by classical and modern texts; and how this basic knowledge can be greatly enhanced for application in the mental/emotional and spiritual realms through a deeper layer of clinical information communicated by the point names and their inherent symbolism. 

• The ability to identify the main channel network involved in the presentation of a given patient, and then hone in on the process of selecting the most suitable acupuncture point on that channel.

• Understanding the system will enable you to be flexible and strategic in designing acupuncture point combinations that successfully treat even the most unusual, complex or previously confounding patient presentations in your practice.

CLASS STRUCTURE

• Class sessions are held LIVE online on Saturdays, 10:00am to 12:30pm (Pacific Time).

• One 7-minute break.

• 20-minute Q&A session for those in attendance.

• Online Q&A forum to ask questions not answered in class.

• A recording will be available after each class session.

• Participants are issued an online account by our educational partner, Net of Knowledge, where course recordings, materials, and (where applicable) professional CE certificates are located.

• For those on the Professional Track to obtain CEU/PDA credits: NCCAOM, California, and/or Florida PDA certificates are issued after each live class session. You must be in attendance for the entire session. If you are unable to attend, a recording is made available and you will need to complete a worksheet and quiz to obtain the certificate.

• For those on the Professional Track, a separate Program Certificate from The Healing Order will be issued upon successful completion of all class sessions (live and/or recorded). Registering for the Professional Track is a requirement since attendance and completions are tracked. A Program Certificate should not be confused with professional continuing education credit.
